DNHC504: Mental Health and Trauma Awareness

Course Access: Lifetime
Course Overview
This short module is made up of two components, mental health awareness and trauma awareness.

Upon completion of this module you will better understand mental health challenges and appreciate how best to respond and support those in crises; we believe this is something everyone should know. The objective of this course is not to train you to become a mental health practitioner, but rather to raise community awareness around mental health, and to raise awareness on the resources and training available. We highly recommend that you consider undertaking additional training to become an accredited mental health support person for yourself or your workplace. We have provided a list of agencies and training courses available in Australia, NZ, UK, Europe and the USA towards the bottom of the page.

We are formalising the addition of trauma awareness training into this module, it’s designed to offer coaches an opportunity to develop their awareness of the role of trauma in our everyday lives.

“Trauma is the invisible, but no less material, force that shapes our lives. It shapes the way we live, the way we form connections, and the way we make sense of the world. It is the root of our deepest wounds. Dr. Maté gives us a new vision: a trauma-literate society in which parents, teachers, physicians, policymakers, and legal personnel seek to understand the sources from which troubling behaviors and diseases spring, in order to better address the issues of the populations they serve. Through his insights, a path materializes towards individual and collective healing, with practices that aim to create cures to address root causes before they manifest as physical symptoms.”
