Description

This unit of study consists of Mental Health Awareness content which covers depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, psychosis and substance use problems. A range of crises are reviewed from suicidal thoughts and behaviours, self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, acute effects from substance use, psychotic states to aggressive behaviours. You’ll gain an understanding of the signs and symptoms of the mental health challenges that far too many of us must cope within society today, whether directly or indirectly, as well as understand the support that has been shown to be effective in research. Drawn from an extensive array of government and not-for-profit agencies and their resources this module will bring together the best information and resources so you can work through the workbook. A final assessment is an untimed, online quiz.

This unit also includes a Trauma Awareness component to develop student understanding of trauma and trauma-informed coaching. Students will have access to current resources on trauma including readings, videos, and discussions. Well College have secured an ongoing license for Gabor Mate’s ‘The Wisdom of Trauma’ which all students in this subject have unlimited access to.
